Leighton’s Priorities

Let’s make North Kitsap Schools a top choice for families

Schools that Serve Students

For every decision, we should ask: How does this serve students? Let’s increase support, expand opportunity, and make NK a district families choose with confidence.

Collaboration and Transparency

Strong schools grow from strong connections with all stakeholders. Let’s foster meaningful engagement through listening, partnership, and open communication.

Visionary Leadership for a Responsive Future

We are facing significant changes in demographics, facilities, and tech. Let’s make future-ready decisions that strengthen our schools now and for the next generation.

Meet Leighton

Hi, I’m Leighton Thomas—a parent, an experienced public educator, and a proud Kitsap neighbor.

I’ve worked in classrooms, in state education leadership, and as a consultant helping schools improve. With over 15 years in education and a doctorate in education policy and leadership, I bring deep experience and a strong belief in what’s possible for our students.

I’m also a military spouse, PTA volunteer, youth orchestra board member, and outdoor-loving mom of two who is proud to call this community home. I’m running for school board because I’m a community-minded neighbor with a deep belief that governance isn’t a spectator sport—it’s something we do together, with care, clarity, and purpose.
